I have the legacy pump in 18" 5+1. and highly recommend it.

Price was not an issue for me and I have compared it extensively with other shotguns. It won over all others based on the following criteria (in order of importance):

- at 6 lbs it is 1lb lighter than any other HD shotgun. In a HD situation you want a shotgun that's easy to swing and aim towards the threat, and you want smaller members of your family to be able and do it too. The Legacy is extremely easy to swing.

- Build quality. Hatsan has a lot of CNC machines and makes shotguns for other brands in high volume so they can afford the mahines (labor costs are low in Turkey). All parts are CNC-milled to very tight tolerances and other gun makers can't match that without the equipment.

- Superior design: Hatsan has manufactured shotguns for Benelli and H&K for years and they have learned a lot in the process. I believe they have taken the H&K design and improved it. They kept the 90 degree-bent slide release from the H&K which is an awesome feature. They reduced the total number of parts over the 870-based design making the Legacy easier to take down. BTW this is the same kind of improvement Glock made over Colt. It made for a more reliable gun and earned Glock its reputation. Hatsan also sandwitched an aluminum receiver in a parkerized steel shell and saved a bunch of weight on the gun. Take a look at the receiver and you will see the 2 different metal parts. This is an awesome idea because it allowed them to make a mirror-finished receiver inside were the shells slide effortlessly, there is no chance of catching an edge like in a cast Remy received and incure a FTF.

Take a look at the forehand. This is the best ergonomically designed forehand I have ever seen. My fingers find their natural spot everytime. And it does not rattle like the Benelli or Mossy because less moving parts are in there. It feels rock solid.

- Reliability/Accuracy: Hatsan won a bid to equip our troops in Iraq 2 years ago. After 2 years of use I heard good things about these guns through the grapevine. They are imprevious to sand and keep working with little maintenance.

I believe the 10 years from now, when enough people have handled it and taken it appart, the Hatsan Legacy pump shotgun will be viewed as the Glock of shotguns.

The Legacy escort is a stripped-down H&K FP6, without the heat shield, the flip-up front sight and the ghost ring. Here is the escort:

... and here is the H&K FP6:

Being the same shotguns, all parts interchange. CDNN has a few accessories for the HK that fit the Escort, including:

Folding stock with pistol grip:

Mag extensions:

Even a carbon-fiber barrel with heatshield and flip-up sight:
