Dear NN,
We have found in our stock of woods an old French walnut blank that seems perfectly suitable for a pre-war Rigby type stock.
Alas the photos don't do justice to the true quality of the wood.
Indeed it's a quiet walnut, not a shiny Circassian as seen on modern Blaser rifles, but it's strong with well-oriented grain flow.
Such a wood matches our original quotation, however we can provide a nicer blank, but as good seasoned French walnut is becoming scarcer and more difficult to come, the basic price will grow…
We have some very nice well seasoned French walnut blanks, but they are pricey...
, and frankly I don’t think it would be the best thing to do !
That one is perfect for the intended project, it is correct for the base quotation, and, when finished, it will be in the Rigby style of the past.
Let me know your opinion asap so we will be able to start the woodwork in January.
