Description The .302 Whisper is based on the 7 mm Bench Rest (BR) Remington long-range target shooting case, itself based on a modified thin-walled small-primer-pocketed derivative of the 7.62 × 51 NATO cartridge, necked-out and shortened so that long, low-drag 7.82 mm (.308) bullets will still fit in 7.62 × 51 mm length rifle actions. Bullets of from 7.8 g (120 gr) upwards can be used, but the best results for long-range accuracy are achieved with long, low-drag 15.5 g (240 gr) bullets which are loaded to achieve velocities which are just subsonic (about 320 m/s).
