There were three variations of the model. The first one was produced around 1954 – 1958. It had locks with non-rebounding hammers, and the firing pins were accessible only from the inside of the gun. With the hammers uncocked, you can see the firing pins protruding from the breech face. The barrels were 750 mm long, the chamber is 20.6 mm and the bores 18.5 mm.

The second version, made between 1958 and 1962, differs from the first in three respects. First, the barrels are chromed on the inside. Second, the firing pin housings are made of stainless steel and are screwed in from the breech face – so that one can remove or replace them without taking the whole action apart. Third, the hammers are rebounding.

The third version (from 1962 to about 1968) has the same action and locks characteristics, but the barrels are drastically different. They are shorter (725 – 730 mm), tighter (18.2 mm nominal bore diameter), and the way they are joined together is drastically different; the previous versions’ barrels are simply soldered together, but on the third version they are joined by a sleeve at the breech (just like on all modern Izh doubles). The place where the breech meets the barrel tubes is marked by some engraving. These barrels were lighter and much improved the balance of the gun, but they didn’t shoot as well with big loads of big shot. Hunters were disappointed.
