  1. Thank you ! Valuable information , i wish i meet you earlier in my shooting path
  2. @M67 You have any idea about velocity loss with a 6.5x55 in 50 cm barrel ? As a rule of thumb , how many m/s i can loose per length unit? Seems like a stupid thing to do (velocity loss=lower BC , unburn powder e.t.c. ) but i'm sure someone already did this test .
  3. Well Romania is not Norway , in many aspects we have a better living here when we compare with western/northern Europe but when it comes to guns and gun ownership is a crappy country if you are curious about how crapy can be about guns take 2 min and read here some facts (post no 4) http://www.kammeret.no/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=71972 . Tikka Varmint and Super Varmint i can get in the same day i get the permit from the police (i need to apply for each gun i want to buy and can take up to 45 days to get the permit , was in same until a mad man shoot his wife and another few persons present there in a public place , was no precedent like this , shocking and ..this is it, new law ... ..so we have instead of few hours of wait , maximum 1 day, now 45 days of possible wait) . Sauer STR is not a bad suggestion i want to change the stock and the trigger anyway (X-ray chassis and Bix and Andy trigger) so the final price will be close to an STR for less quality... .
  4. I don't know what steel it is , something regular , nothing special . I got news , if i order now the rifle (CTR) i will get it in September ....long wait .
  5. Thank you M67 . I will order the rifle , i prefer stainless but is not available yet . Maybe i read to much and i shoot to less From what i shoot with 180 gr (this ammo Sellier Belot PTS http://www.sellier-bellot.cz/rifle-ammu ... roduct=272" target="_blank" target="_blank) i got no problem to get over 800m , only problem remains the wind , if at my position i get closer to the reality in estimating wind (cross checked with anemometer) , to decide the wind along the line of sight is still a huge challenge for me , need more and continuous practice i guess. From what i read (internet forums) seems like heavy bullets 175 gr and over are more stable on their trajectory when the speed gets under speed of sound , and 150-168 gr seems to get tumbling at low velocities , but no personal experience in comparing this weights . As a personal experience i noticed i'm better at estimating wind (but a beginner ) in higher winds then in slow breeze and i try to shoot in the highest value of wind , maybe the surroundings give me better visual indicators on high value...i don't know if is good or not is just like worked best for me until now. For me the most consistent bullet was the one from RWS , RWS Target Ellite 12.3 grams http://rws-munition.de/en/sports/produc ... l#!0/1/283" target="_blank" target="_blank (they are using Sierra Match King 190 grains https://www.sierrabullets.com/store/pro ... -MatchKing" target="_blank" target="_blank) , very forgiving on wind with my poor experience in reading wind and violent on target , a hit is a loud sound of steel , but don't use this under 500 even 550 m on steel , have the habbit to make nice holes in steel
  6. Tikka CTR seems very appealing for an all around rifle ,my worries come from the short barrel 51 cm , i'm limited to factory ammo , with a 61 cm barrel i have no problem to get supersonic at 1000m (i have a problem just to hit the target ) but from my calculus 308 with a 51 cm get transonic at maximum 800-900 m . Anyone have a short barrel Tikka , how about the velocity lost compared with a longer barrel or with the factory data of amunition? I expect to loose around 30 m/s - 35 m/s from a 61 cm barrel to a 51 cm barrel ..but can't be sure. Thank you P.S.

Note: All above is my personal thoughts, very very subjective , don't want to start an debate caliber vs caliber . I was in same boat like you 2 years ago , almost same list of rifle brands to chose from , but my list got 1 more cartridge .243 win . One important fact is i'm much more limited regarding ammunition then you are in NO because here in RO we are not allowed to reload own ammo , so i'm limited to factory ammo . First i chose the cartridge , on wind .243 and 6.5x55 have the advantage also the trajectory is more rainbow like for .308 (trajectory was not very important for me because we use "tactical" scopes designed to help for adjustment so ...no decisive criteria ) , here in our stores in not easy to find 6.5x55 ammo , .308 and .243 much more present but .243 no mach ammo, i want to use same rifle also for hunting so here .308 have the punch power advantage above the other 2 at regular hunting ranges , after many hours ..days decided 6.5x55 vs .308 win ( main reason was .243 don't have enough energy for game bigger then roe deer also no factory match ammo). Here some theoretical tables to compare .308 to 6.5x55: Norma 6.5x55 Golden Target vs Norma .308 Win Golden Target (wind speed 1 m/s) Comparision table Comparision table, advantage of 6.5 over .308 in % You can see a clear 6.5x55 advantage here (this if we take 6.5x55 factory speed in consideration from a 74 cm barrel , uncommon in factory rifles today) , .308 goes transonic early and also after 300 m 6.5 carry more energy , on wind a clear winner 6.5x55 . But if we change the loads ...different story . Norma 6.5x55 Golden Target vs RWS TARGET ELITE .308 Win. 12,3G (wind speed 1 m/s) Comparision table Comparision table, advantage of 6.5 over .308 in % Now you can see 6.5x55 lost his advantage on wind , 1-2 clicks difference from .308 , lost his advantage in energy but keep his speed better at long ranges becoming transonic later then .308 . All in one , in your shoes i will go 6.5x55 because have historical value for you there in NO also is a very good cartridge , you can reload and get what you want , huge knowledge and love there for 6.5x55 . If you chose 6.5x55 you can have at your budget the excellent Tikka , but if you go .308 i will chose Howa (i own one already) , Remington or other rifle who provide a faster twist rate , if you want to mach 6.5x55 with .308 you need to stabilize heavy long bullets for this you want a faster twist , Tikka in .308 have 1:11 , Howa and Remington have 1:10 so theoretically Howa and Remington are better in .308 win but not with much. I hope the above it help you to make a decision.

With 2 factory ammo i can get easy to 1000 m (but 700-800 is marginal with many other .308 loads), my only problem remains the wind tricky thing most of the time I use "cheap" ammo Sellier Bellot PTS http://www.sellier-bellot.cz/rifle-ammunition-detail.php?ammunition=19&product=272 and "premium" RWS Target Elite heavyer one at 12.3 g http://rws-munition.de/en/sports/products/centerfire-rifle-cartridges.html#!0/1/283 with both you will be fine up to 1000-1100 m . I find your comment odd , if you can shoot MOA with one cartridge at 300 m then you must be able to shoot same MOA at 800 m or more , the only problem remains the wind , i don't think is a problem with .308 vs 6.5x55 but maybe with the shooter , and here come personal preference, recoil sensitive or not , experience , gun fit ..... All the best
  10. Thank you this kind of behavior i expect from S&L but realy this article make me come here and ask an direct opinion from direct users . P.S. This young guy is faster " target="_blank" target="_blank __________________________________________________________________________________________ Takk: lol : denne typen oppførsel jeg forventer fra S & L , men virkelig denne artikkelen gjør meg komme hit og be en direkte uttalelse fra direkte brukere .
  11. Hello, First of all i apologies for using English instead of Norwegian , i'm from Romania and i don't have any knowledge of Norwegian language . I was ready to order a Schultz & Larsen Classic-DL with 2 barrels , 270 win and 9.3x62 or just one barrel in 30-06 ,when i found this article http://www.jaktojagare.se/en/tip.php?id=178080 , in this article the author talk about a weak magazine spring who can produce a feeding problem specially when fast reload (locking time and fast reload was one of the main reasons i want a S&L ) and a problematic extractor , i know this is and old article from 2005 but ha make me think... ..do you experienced the problems author talks about in this article ? If are some problems i want to know about them, if there is any , maybe i will buy a S&L but first think i will try to correct the problem (stronger magazine spring e.t.c.) if not i will try to find a more reliable alternative . I must mention i want this rifle mainly for driven hunts for wild boars , here we have the large ones 150-250 kg is normal here also in some area brown bears are presents (see Wild boar fever 5) in this context i need a reliable, fast rifle , bolt action , easy on shoulder . Thank you . ..do du opplevd problemer forfatteren snakker om i denne artikkelen ? Takk.

I'm also interested about this rangefinder. Thank you.
  14. After 354 days of wait finaly i got the rifle Thank you for all good advices. Rifle have less or no recoil (it is some odd recoil with Prvi Partizan GROM 170 gr hunting ammo in rest with other ammo my 51 kg wife have no problems shooting it ) I will come back with some groups (don't have pictures but is a laser) . As few toughs.... I like it all except 1 thing , trigger. Is the 2 stages one, is sett now to the lightest level and is not light enough in my humble opinion , after hunting season is over i intend to strip the trigger and to polish some faces (green part) , if i fail i will replace with a Timney or Basix .
Takk
  16. I checked with my dealer , he is able to provide me only Bell and Carlson Medalist Varmint/Tactical this one from the picture bellow (Bell and Carlson #: 6655-02) My concern about this stock is the Monte Carlo cheek piece , i know sometime this shape of stock can "increase" the felt recoil compared with a more straight stock. Sauer 150, do you have experience with this stock regarding felt recoil? I'm not recoil sensitive .300 wm is for me more pleasant to shoot then my 12 ga but i consider also this aspect because i want to avoid factors who can develop flinching. Thank you

    Hilsen fra Romania!

Unfortunately here the authorities try to inhibit gun owners, I will try to explain how you can get your hunting license also gun owning approval in RO. 1. You need to apply to be accepted in a hunting club (association) 2. If/after you are accepted in a club you need to spend at least 1 year as apprentice, in this time you need to participate at at least 5 hunts as a beater and hunter assistant, and minimum in 5 actions of management (game feeding, repair of buildings). 2. After this year you get a recommendation and you can apply to take an examination and to become a licensed hunter. To be accepted at this examination you need to provide a full set of medical exams which must prove you are a healthy individual, results from a psychological test - you must be a balanced person, an official document emitted by Romanian Police with your criminal record, and another few documents. This examination is a marksmanship test and after this first test a theoretical test , 30 questions , as a quiz about game , game life, game management, hunting methods, hunting periods , hunting law , gun law e.t.c. If you pass the exam you become licensed hunter. NOW YOU ARE A LICENSED HUNTER NOT MORE A second stage become Now you need to become a gun owner. 1. First you need to get in a king of preparation (lessons) for using lethal weapons; this is organized by an authorized person (by the authorities, in this case police), this take around course take 3 weeks. After this you have another exam organized by police, a marksmanship part and a second part theoretical again a quiz regarding weapons, and gun law. If you pass this exam you get a diploma, NOW you are qualified to use lethal weapons: D 2.Is time to go to police (guns department) with all the document achieved before (lethal weapons usage diploma, hunting license , psychological examination-special one made for possible gun owners , medical examination -general one , here with this documents you apply to become a gun owner . When you go to police to apply to become a gun owner you must already have at home a gun safe (catch in the floor and the wall, 2 compartments, one for ammunition with a separate locker one for guns). Now the police analyze your request , your criminal records are verified again , a social investigation is done (talk with your neighbors , the policeman who in is charge in residential section where your house is must do a appreciation about you) , police come to visit you , inspect at your residence the gun safe, to be according the law and only if you are OK (this mean you are not an violent or aggressive person, no criminal record , balanced person e.t.c.) you get a piece of paper which give you the right to buy your first weapon . Now you can buy your first LONG weapon (in Romania as civilian you are not allowed to own short weapons as pistols, revolvers , you can have this kind of weapons only as a collector and in this case every time when you take out a weapon outside your house you need to have a written acceptance from police) . After you buy your first weapon in maximum 3 days you need to go with the rifle to the police to be registered, to take ballistic print of the weapon and to receive your GUN OWNER PERMISSION. Only now you are a hunter and a gun owner To hunt individually you need to buy a authorization for a specific game , or to hunt with your association (hunting club) members (this is i case of driven hunts). Regarding calibers and cartridges we are alowed to use ...this si an odd aproach This is an extras from the law with minimum you can use. 1. ROE DEER - Bullet diameter (mm) 5,6 - Case length (mm) 43 - Bullet weight (g) 3,24 2. CHAMOIS si MUFLON - Bullet diameter (mm) 5,6 - Case length (mm) 50 - Bullet weight (g) 4,08 3. WILD HOG AND RAIN DEER - Bullet diameter (mm) 6,5 - Case length (mm) 57 - Bullet weight (g) 7,00 4. RED DEER - Bullet diameter (mm) 7,0 - Case length (mm) 57 - Bullet weight (g) 11,02 5. BROWN BEAR - Bullet diameter (mm) 7,0 - Case length (mm) 64 - Bullet weight (g) 12,96 Important things: You are not allowed to get in the field with a weapon without authorization for a specific game , the only accepted situation is to carry the weapon in a case . You are nor allowed to practice outside authorized ranges . If you want to know more please let me know.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not to forget... Do you consider Bell and Carlson a better stock compared with Hogue?...this is because you can have a quality bedding more easy on B&C or is another reason ...regarding stiffness i was looking for full length aluminum block on Hogue. should be more rigid.
Jeg er optimistisk og tålmodig person jeg håper til de internasjonale barnas dag (1. juni) for å få min leketøy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you @Sauer 150 So Howa will be a better shooter, this is an important thing for me. I already have a 20 MOA picatinny rail which ca be fitted on Howa or Remington short action (a Recknagel from Roedale store) and for this rifle I already have a brand new IOR 3-18x42. The hole story is like this in 3 October 2011 I ordered a Howa (226 days ago) I didn't got the rifle...yet , so SHR was a just an unexpected offer . I'm am optimistic and patient person I hope till the international children's day (1 June) to get my toy
  22. @Norway Takk for svaret. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your answer. Please if is possible can you tell me what level of precision should I expect from SHR? MOA or better?
================================================================================= Greetings from Romania, I'm in front of this dilemma ...after a long wait finally i'm in position to buy a new rifle.I found a SIG SHR 970 Match (second hand) at same price with a new Howa Model 1500 Varminter stainless (Hogue Full Length Aluminium Bedding Block stock)both in .308 , heavy barrel.... I intend to use the rifle as all around (i don't care about the weight ) , roe to wild boar also for some long range plinking (500-800 meters) for fun . The question is SHR or Howa? SHR seems to be a better build but is no longer supported so spare parts seems to be hard to find ...Howa is more common , wich one is more accurate? ...more reliable ? Thank you P.S. I apologise for my language , i used google translate to translate in Norwegian.
