■10 years ago, there were less than 5 000 game farms in South Africa

■Trophy hunting has a lesser impact on wildlife than biltong hunting

■Game farms creates three times more employment than on a normal livestock farm

The industry has seen species like Rhino, Sable and Roan, breeded by game farmers, returned to its habitat in healthy numbers. Hunting played a role in providing game farmers with the needed income to sustain the breeding of these animals.

Interessante tall. Trodde egentlig de var høyere, men det er jakt vi snakker om så det er vel begrenset hva man kan få ut av det økonomisk. Allikevel en imponerende vekst. Det som slår meg er at de kan skaffe så mye som 220000 arbeidsplasser. Fikk ikke med meg antall arbeidstagere nå, men uansett imponerende med tanke på "bare" 0,25% av brutto nasjonalprodukt. Det viktigste bidraget er nok til viltstammene uansett. Har nok sett mørkt ut for viltet i SA uten gamefarmene.
