  1. I often wonder why the .358 Norma Magnum cartridge is ignored for Africa? It shoots a 250 gr. bullet at 2800 fps, and is deadly on all game. It shoots flatter than the .375 H&H, and due to less bullet diameter, has better penetration & better ballistics overall. I shot a tough Zebra, 1000 kg. Cape Eland, and Oryx among other large, tough game. They all dropped on the spot...I also have a .375 H&H, so could have used that...but I prefer the .358 Norma Magnuim over the .375 H&H. Its just better overall. I have 3 factory .358 Norma Magnum Rifles...a Kongsberg, a Husqvarna & a Schulz & Larsen. I also use a .35 Newton which is even more powerful than the .358 Norma Magnum...but very similar in killing opower. Best Regards, Tom
  2. Hello All: Thanks for the feedback on URP. I use it because I have a lot of it, and use it in my .358 Norma Magnum, there Norma has load data. I also use it for my .35 Newton & 9.3x64 Newton (wildcat). Norma has sent me this information: "URP is between 204-MRP but has nearly 2.5 times more Nitro, so its more powerful and has a thicker coating, so its slower in the beginning and gives the energy more down the barrel." You can call it a modified MRP". I also think it may be a little fast for the .308 Norma Magnum...but I thought maybe in your area, there may have been more experimentation with URP. Its almost unknown in the U.S., and most shooters have a wide choice of U.S. Powders so tend not to pay more money for imported powders like Norma. However, I like Norma MRP and URP has worked well in some of my cartridges as mentioned above. I guess the only way to find out is to experiment with it... Thanks again for the good replies! Mvh, Tom
  3. Hello: Does anyone have experience using Norma URP Powder? There is little reloading data on it from Norma. I am interested in using it for my .308 Norma magnum caliber rifle. Any replies, English language please...I am not knowledgeable in any other language. Thanks in advance, Tom from Cody, Wyoming, U.S.

    308 Nor Mag

Hello: I think the .308 Norma Magnum is one of the best .308 caliber cartridges. Its not extreme, yet is a good magnum with power & accuracy. A great choice for a Hunter. I notice in the Norma Reloading manual that of the .358 Norma Magnum, Nils Kvale of Norma said that it essentially duplicated the long obsolete .35 Newton that had been introduced in the U.S. in 1915. That being said in Norma's own reloading manual...leads to the suspicion that basically the idea of the .308 Norma cartridge was copied from the older Newton cartridge ,and slightly changed for the .308 Norma Magnum. They are quite similar...both the .308 Norma magnum much like the .30 Newton & the .358 Norma Magnum also like the .35 Newton. Except for small differences, and the Newton cartridges are not belted. I can make my Newton cases from the Norma Magnum cases if wanted. They have nearly the same ballistics. Much of the development in the Gun Industry is copied from what was proven good before. I shoot both a .35 Newton & have 3, .358 Norma Magnums...also a .308 Norma Magnum. They are all very well designed cartridges. Mvh, Tom
  6. Hi Arild: Thanks for the Welcome...I used to hunt since I was 13 years old...(I am now 68 years old and still hunting). I also had hunted when young with an American Indian who taught me some too. But no one is a complete expert...the main thing is to enjoy the Sport & share knowledge & ideas. Med Vennlig Hilsen, Tom
  7. Hello: I used a .358 Norma Magnum caliber with Norma 250 gr. Oryx bullets...a good choice. I shot Eland, Red Hartebeest, Hartman;s Mountain Zebra, Oryx, Impala & Blesbok. The Cape Eland was estimated at about 1,000 kg. Excuse the English language,...I am an American & only know English language. except..."MVH"! Best Regards & MVH, Tom from Wyoming, USA
