scottylamb
Afternoon all, Recently moved to Stavanger and looking to get into sport rifle shooting locally, and eventually taking the Norwegian hunting test. Any local introductions would be really appreciated, and recommendations or invitations to attend a local club or range would be great. Cheers, Scott. Ei tohi varjata
To paraphrase our regular Norwegian welcome: hi, and welcome to Norway's best forum for shooters, hunters and gun owners! I live in the north part of Rogaland, but we have many members from the Stavanger and Sandnes area which can point you in the right direction. Mix
Hi Scott, Welcome. What is your home country ? If you already have a hunters certificate it is maybe possible to convert it to a Norwegian one. If not the easiest way I think will be to join the local hunting and fishing union. They arrange courses "jegerprøven" to get Norwegian hunting certificate. They also have shooting ranges for shotgun, rifle and pistol. https://www.njff.no/fylkeslag/rogaland/lokallag/stavanger https://www.njff.no/fylkeslag/rogaland/lokallag/stavanger/Documents/How2fish_hunt_shoot_in_norway.pdf
scottylamb
Thanks guys. I'm in Stavanger, so hoping to find a range close to there that i can join so i can get going. Emailed the contact address at Øksnevad / Klepp, so will see what they say when they reply. Do the local clubs have sport shooting year round, or do they stop during the winters? We don't have a legally required hunting certificate in the UK, so i think i'll need to take the Norwegian test, but that's fine, i'm more than willing to sit the exam. Might learn something along the way.

Audible
Welcome! There are a lot of local ranges in greater Stavanger area. I prefer Klepp as its a modern range for sport shooting and not too crowded. I live in Stavanger. If you are into Skeet / Trap then one of the best ranges in Norway are just outside Ålgård. If you want to shoot handguns then Sola club has indoor area on Forus. https://www.njff.no/fylkeslag/rogaland/lokallag/stavanger/Documents/How2fish_hunt_shoot_in_norway.pdf https://www.njff.no/fylkeslag/rogaland/lokallag/stavanger/Sider/Jegerprøvekurs.aspx?menuid=10 www.inatur.no has permits everyone can buy. Good luck!

Good luck! Hey Audible, Thanks man! I went to visit Gann Skytterlag on Thursday night and was really impressed, big area with lots of stands, and the gentleman was very friendly. So at least in the first instance I’ll join there. Was interested in Klepp, seems their range is a little longer than some others. Maybe I can join a couple clubs, good way to meet some locals I suppose. Cheers!
Lee
In the same boat as you. My fiancé is from Stavanger and I’m just about to finally move here from Alaska. Now I’m trying to learn about the hunting culture around here and what I got to do start hunting. Going to try and take the hunters coarse over here first.
