about the svt-40, im not sure about that...i have personally seen hundreds of them in german and austrian gun dealer warehouses a few years ago, they aren't as rare as one might think. many of the ones from the batch i saw in germany have been deactivated later because there where no buyers for them and sold for less than 600 euro's including the 200 euro deactivation fee and i know there are still many in stock at the main arms dealers in eastern europe. so customizing or altering one svt-40 wont be that bad. svt-38 is more rare and the avt-38 is a whole different story as they are the really rare ones since they are full auto and only made a few years. rifles/long guns i had or used from others in the past, recreational shooting and military, most were on loan from a friend who was arms dealer in germany: oberland arms AO-15 diemaco c7 and c8 mosin nagant m38 svt-40 steyr mannlicher m1895 la coruna FR8 remington 742 woodmaster cz zkk600 lee enfield no4 mk1 sako finfire schmidt rubin k31 fortmeier fortek 2001 mauser 71, 88, G98 H&K SL6 M1 carbine erma sr-100 ruger mini 14 barrett fieldcraft and 98b remington 700 tikka t3 winchester 1893 pgm ludis marlin& winchester lever action (not sure which models they were) and some blackpowder rifles like rolling block and flint/percussion muskets the main use would be recreational target shooting 100-300m, and some hunting on small game at some point. budget would be around 80.000NOK maximum but i'd rather use that for several rifles instead of one.

Hi Ole, thank you for your reply. i didnt think about the lack of primary extraction but now you mention it that does seem like a real problem that would cancel the whole idea. also what you say about the "spooky" part with future law changes. i guess i just have to look into the regular bolt actions more to find something that is both exclusive and functional. (i have so many difficult ideas, like for example a revolver or gsp with a Rink formgriff stock and 16 inch barrel to qualify as a rifle but it's always to complicated . i'll learn at some point i guess. thanks

i read that most semi automatic (military) rifles are not legal anymore for sportshooting and hunting in norway. but is it legally possible to have a norway gunsmith buy and convert a semi automatic military rifle (like AR-15, garand, svt-40) to manual straight pull action? (conversion by removing all gas operating parts, and using a barrel without a gas port, like they do in england?) I have seen the Troy P.A.R rifle for sale in norway but i dont like pump action so that is no option for me.

sorry, it is not possible to convert Glock 20 to 9mm if it has to be reliable. some people used a lone wolf conversion barrel and a different recoil spring but it has many problems and must be used with +P ammo to get it to cycle and even then will fail many times.

the 1911 22lr copies usually have a zinc alloy slide just like alarmpistols have and they can sometimes break if you accidentally drop it and sometimes after long or rough use. also because of the zinc alloy you cannot use surface finishes like phosphate or blueing, only paint or cerakote. the material is a bit similar to moped carburettors. another problem can be thin barrel, they heat up when you shoot a lot and change the point of impact. if you use it for fun like plinking its no big problem but if you want to use it for competition or for many years its better to get a real 1911 with a conversion system, or look for a steel 22lr model that looks a bit like 1911. good luck.

if it is marked 17-5 it is probably not stainless steel but hard chromed after it left the factory. this is fairly common with 17-5 models.

M67, thank you for your reply. i have a piece of forest on the side of the mountain where i want to shoot at a 25meter target with .22lr rifle. behind the target there is about 40 meters of my forest before the neighbours part of the forest starts. my target is a metal bullet trap 1meter high and 1 meter wide. do i have to make some kind of sand hill behind the target to make sure no bullets go to the neighbours land? does anyone know how high and wide the sand hill should be so i can safely shoot without breaking any laws? it is an old forrest with no roads so normally no people go there but i want to make sure it is safe to shoot according to the norwegian rules. i could also shoot in the direction of the top of the mountain, then i dont need to make a hill to catch the bullets but it is very difficult to change the targets so high on the steep rocks. my forrest goes up almost to the top of the mountain. the mountain is 750 meters high and my forest goes to 450 meters high. the nearest house is 240 meters behind the shooting bench so i think the noise will be ok.

Dodraugen, yes Mauser is a better idea, the straight action screws on mauser look easier to work with than the angled ones on mosin, and cheaper ammo is always better as Ei tohi varjata said. Psg-1, i will probably make a look-a-like stock with the correct lenght of pull that fits me. i would never think of destroying a MK2S for parts. I have no problem cutting a mauser in half but i will never destroy a sten if i had one. sten is special to me.

if i manage to finish it i will post pictures but it will take a long time, maybe in the summer i start. i made a poorman photoshop for now.
